On August 14th, 1882, the first California Southern Railroad train took off on its new route from San Diego to San Bernardino. Theodore M. Loop, the contractor and engineer behind the project, had built a home just North of San Diego. He described it as “the most attractive place on the entire coast.” Today, that place is known as Del Mar, a beautiful beach city of San Diego County.

The city of Del Mar is located just several miles southeast of Rancho Santa Fe. The two affluent communities in fact share quite a bit in common. From gorgeous luxury homes to incredible views, the two areas also boast great schools, an involved community, and top-tier businesses and facilities to satisfy any kind of resident.

Highlights of the Del Mar community include several organizations seeking to better the lives of Del Mar residents and give back to the community.

Del Mar Community Connections is a volunteer-driven organization providing programs and services that allow maturing residents to live safely and independently in the homes they love.

The organization offers a variety of programs, including a neighborhood emergency support team, pet adoption service, and Project CARE, a community effort that enables an older person or a person with a disability to remain in their own home and feel safe.

Last month, the organization celebrated its community, volunteers and business sponsors with the 14th Annual Benefit Celebration.

Del Mar TV is another unique program of the community, supported by the Del Mar Television Foundation. The Foundation exists as a 501(c)3 nonprofit that strives to cover issues of all kinds.

Del Mar TV’s overall goal is to engage Del Mar in topics that are of interest to the community. The program provides a channel that is open to public access, for educational, governmental and general programming.

They are partnered up with other community organizations in Del Mar, such as Community Connections, the Del Mar Foundation, and the Farmer’s Market.

Along with a great community vibe, the city of Del Mar also offers the Torrey Pines Golf Course, one of the most exclusive and challenging courses in the world, along with great beaches, and many shopping and dining options.
