Rancho Santa Fe Home Featured in Ronald McDonald Dream House Raffle

Every year, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego holds a Dream House Raffle to support its cause. This year, a Rancho Santa Fe home was chosen, and it’s the largest home the charity has ever featured.

The Ronald McDonald House was founded in 1980 to provide a “home away from home” to families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. What started as an 8-room bed-and-breakfast service for families of young cancer patients is now a state-of-the-art center of nonmedical care and support featuring 47 guest rooms.

While the Ronald McDonald House boasts an active volunteer program and generous community support, events such as the Dream House Raffle help generate even more proceeds to support the charity.

The Rancho Santa Fe dream house is a six-bedroom, eight-bedroom custom home that sits on 2.4 acres and features a panoramic mountain view that stretches to the ocean.

“The homeowners making this available to us is a gift,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. “This [Dream House] is just absolutely stunning. It’s not every day you get to hang out at a 7,050-square-foot house.”

The grand prize home features a spacious master chef’s kitchen, a living room space with two warming fireplaces, a wine cellar, and a dining room that doubles as a library. Upstairs, each bedroom has its own bathroom and the master suite is complete with ocean views from the bedroom, office, and walk-in closet.

“This really is a home and it feels like a home,” Day said. “We invite everyone to take part in the dream.”

The Dream House Raffle will feature more than 1,300 additional prizes with a one in 50 chance of winning. Prizes include beautiful new luxury cars, vacations to locations such as Switzerland and Paris, and hundreds of electronics ranging from a new Apple MacBook to a Samsung High Definition TV.

Tickets are $150 each, but participants can buy in bulk and save some money. 3-packs are available for $400 and 5-packs are available for $550.

The winner of the grand prize can choose between the dream home or $2.1 million in cash if Ronald McDonald House meets its ticket threshold. In the past 10 years, the ticket threshold has been met three times: one winner has taken the house, the other two have taken the money. If the winner does take the cash, the home goes back to the seller, having enjoyed five months of marketing as a dream house.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 888-824-9939 or submitting a raffle order entry form via mail, fax or in-person at the Ronald McDonald House. Order forms and ticket information are available at SDraffle.com.
