1992 was a much different time in the world. No internet and no cell phones. And no online real estate classes. In 1992 I took night classes during my time at UCSD and received my real estate license. In June 1994 I graduated from UCSD and continued working in a restaurant part-time while selling real estate full-time. The robust real estate years of the late 80s were gone and real estate sales were much more competitive and difficult with buyer demand shrinking and inventory constantly increasing. I knew I had to educate myself as quickly as possible. I immersed myself nightly in the sales and marketing section at Barnes & Noble digesting everything I could get my hands on. Just a couple of years later it was the dawn of the Internet and in 1996 I created the Barry Estates website. In addition to door knocking, cold calling and networking everywhere I went I dove into Google and gave our little family company a distinct advantage for anyone searching real estate on the internet. This was a time when the majority of the public had never heard of Barry Estates. I was determined to change that. The switch was on and I attacked. I began to realize there was only one way to engage in this business and that was to do what I believed with everything. If you believe it then you will fully commit to it. In strong real estate markets everything is easy, but after having the good fortune of experiencing the worst markets over 34 years I learned how one must maneuver to achieve the best outcomes. My team and I are accused of being aggressive closers and this is true because we take pride in that privilege to represent our clients. My team and I have sold over $7 Billion. We have sold more than any agent or team in Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar and all of San Diego. I have the highest prices sales ever in San Diego and I am proud of that fact. I do what I believe. I surround myself by people who believe in always elevating and improving ourselves to learn and strive for the best experience in relationships to help each other do the best we can. After all isn’t that what life is about?
We are governed primarily by Warren Buffet’s 3 pillars of Success:
1) Integrity – it is of paramount importance to everyone on my team that we believe in doing what we think is morally and ethically the right thing to do. We always try to keep an open mind as we pursue radical transparency while trying to remove the ego with the focus on representing our clients (who become friends who become family) to achieve the best outcome for them. We want to feel good about what we do for ourselves and our friends.
2) Intelligence – we believe if we don’t know the information needed it is a moral imperative to learn where we are lacking or surround ourselves with people who do know and can help us elevate our game to fill in the gaps. Knowledge devoid of ego is power and critical to support belief. This provides exceptional results.
3) Energy – this one is very interesting because of a duality. On the one hand it means never quitting; pursuing what we believe. We believe persistence does overcome resistance, especially when it is something you believe in. But Energy also means healthy mind, body and spirit. We believe it is important to constantly nourish our minds, body and spirit and help one another.
This isn’t just who we are but this is also a recipe for Success!
